Feedback on the winter course

Filed under: Uncategorized — donghnut @ 9:37 am

Tired of typing in English, so the following part will be in Chinese.

Ledger in spotlight Hollywood actor Heath Ledger has been found dead at his home in Manhattan. “He was found unconscious at the apartment and pronounced dead,” the New York Police Department said, adding that pills were found near the body.

MY COMMENT

Overdose of sleeping pills led his lfe to a sudden end. What a tragede to died at such a golden age. Who can imaging that this small pill would drag  a star (with a great future) down to death from the climax of life. As the proverb goes  “A wonderful person came to life in his own cry, and passed away in others tears.” As soon as his death was announed, hundreds of people gathered together in memorizing him. We can say that “he have’nt lived in vain. “

Compulsory cooking classes

NEWS

English teenagers are to receive compulsory cooking lessons in schools. The idea is to encourage healthy eating to combat the country’s spiralling obesity rate. It’s feared that basic cooking and food preparation skills are being lost as parents turn to pre-prepared convenience foods. Jon Devitt reports

MY COMMENT

Well..To speak frankly , I don’t think that this action will slow down the rising rate of
obesity. My point is that “knowing how to make healthy food doesn’t means that you will eat healthier”. “Obesity” is now a symble of Eastern countries. As you see, fast food is obviously parts of their cultures. All of them know that bad eating habits will eventually lead to physical problems. But they just can’t live without it!!

Warming fears for China ice show

NEWS

A famous ice festival in China, that attracts tens of thousands of tourists, appears to be the latest victim of rising global temperatures.

The festival, in Harbin in the far northeast of China, has become the city’s biggest individual source of income since it was launched in 1985.But that income is under threat because the ice sculptures are starting to melt much earlier than usual.Last year, Harbin’s average temperature was 6.6C, the highest on record. ‘Worried’Harbin is one of China’s coldest cities. In winter, temperatures can drop as low as -35C.Despite its harsh climate, the city has used the snow and ice to its advantage, and turned itself into a popular winter tourist destination.Visitors arrive from across Asia to experience the numbing cold and see the city’s ice sculptures. This year the festival has an Olympic theme, to celebrate Beijing hosting the Olympic Games.Animals, people, even famous buildings are turned into intricate sculptures that are lit up at night. But higher local temperatures mean that even in January the midday sun starts to melt many of the sculptures. And the warmer weather is reducing the length of the tourist season.Sun Lei, an official involved in the festival, told the BBC that the festival traditionally runs until the end of February. But he added: “We’re worried it won’t last that long this year.”

MY COMMENT

The climate change affects not only environment but also the economic activity.
I’ve once been to an ice sculpture carnival when visiting Japan (or Northen China, I can’t remenber…) . It is a pity that this activity is now dying off. The industrial development has resulted in globle warming. It will definatly influence all human beings. If we don’t take the issue seriously, we might regret when it’s too late.
